Play Online Games For Free - Choices and Options

There are a staggering amount of choices and options for anyone who wants to play games online for free. From brainless sidescrollers to immersive console experiences, nongamers and lifelong players alike can find something to love.

Casual Online Games

The internet is awash in free, simple, time-killing games. From classic solitaire and brick-breaking games to Mario clones and small-scale shooters, there are free online games to suit any taste. Most are designed to fill a few minutes of downtime with mindless fun. A few, like Bejeweled and Asteroids clones, are so addictive you may find yourself playing them for more than just a few moments here and there.

A simple Google search for "play online games for free" will bring back more pages than you could ever need.

Hardcore Online Games

While the vast majority of free online games are quick and simple, a handful have the depth of a console game. Perhaps the best example is the internet phenomenon Runescape, a fantasy role-playing game in the same vein of World of Warcraft. Although free games cannot compete with the graphics and features of subscription-based games, Runescape and games like it offer a surprisingly deep gaming experience. Players can sink months into its complex leveling system and dozens of quests.

Social Networking Website Games

Both MySpace and Facebook, the leading social networking sites on the web, allow you to play online games for free. These games are usually less complex than their console counterparts. Most can be played indefinitely; rather than progressing level by level, players are faced with daily challenges. The popular Facebook application FarmVille, for example, tasks players with caring for their own farm and constantly generates new events to keep players interested.

Most of these social networking games allow players to post updates on their progress into their "feed," an excellent feature for encouraging friendly competition.

PlayStation 3 and Wii Games

Although you'll have to pay for the game disc itself, online play for the Wii and PlayStation 3 is completely free. The Xbox 360, on the other hand, charges a fee for access to its online Xbox Live service.

The two consoles are radically different in how they approach online play. The Wii's online catalogue stays consistent with the console's mission to make gaming accessible for nongamers. Most of the Wii's online games tend towards casual, friendly competition rather than hardcore match-ups. The PlayStation 3 is the console of choice for the hardcore crowd who want to play games online for free.

The nonexistent price tag for playing Wii and PlayStation 3 online comes with a few drawbacks. Quite often players will find their games riddled with glitches or time lag. The PS3 and Wii networks lack the ease of use and connectivity features of Xbox Live, and they are much more susceptible to manipulation by cheaters and crooks. Sony and Nintendo are much slower than Microsoft to update and improve their online infrastructure. Still, there's no cheaper console alternative for anyone who wants to play games online for free.

Computer Games That Cheat Can Be Beat

If you are anything like me, you spend a huge amount of time on the phone and internet. My business is both and while the internet usually takes concentration, the phone business does not. In fact, I can do that particular business in my sleep-and have. To keep from getting unbelievably bored, I started playing games during those conversations that don't require my full attention.

Matching games are good for hand/eye coordination and word games are pretty easy to do while carrying on a conversation. One of the games I have recently acquired is that of a real-estate type, where one moves around the board and has to deal with various community happenstances whilst trying to amass a fortune in cash and properties.

Imagine my surprise to find that playing by the rules in this particular game will have one losing every time. The computer makes sure that it wins, without fail. Yes, the computer cheats. By taking a simple tally of a few things you can tell if your game is cheating. For instance, observing several games in a row, it was plain to see that while my game piece got sent to jail every other trip around the board-and sometimes as much as eight times before completing a revolution, the computer somehow managed to land its' game piece directly on the money spot every other time around. The computer also consistently received the instructions to go directly to that money spot, while I received instructions to go to jail. Something is rotten here.

Frustration is not something one purchases a game for, is it? At least that's not on my particular list of reasons for playing a game. What you can do about it is to click on the options menu and change the rules. As in life, if you don't like the rules, go about changing them. By switching the salary to 2X and switching off the 'even build' rule, and changing taxes and credit card interest to zero, plus deleting the bail amount, one has an almost even chance to beat the game. This is necessary because the game will also consistently land you on the income tax and credit card interest spots, while its' own game piece sails past those almost every time.

The other thing to watch out for is when the computer gives itself all the prime properties, which it also likes to do. Maybe it's wishful thinking, but I am training mine to stop doing that. Every time it gives itself all the prime properties, I quit the game, so no one wins. Okay, so maybe that's just the way I deal with the frustration of a game that cheats so much.

Luckily for me, the game has no idea that I will hang in there until I can purchase its' properties-at four times the amount-and then build on them. Ha! Yes, that is how I win the game. A human opponent would get stubborn-and not be that simple-minded in the first place-and would refuse to sell me a property that would complete my monopoly. Shhh-don't tell the game my secret.

The only time I have seen the game evenly matched is when two or more humans are playing it. When the computer plays, it plays to win, by any means, and cheating doesn't bother it a bit. The game also cheats with the money, by taking more money when you sell a house and taking more than the standard 10% mortgage. My oh my, what a tangled web that game weaves. The game is very true to life, after all.

The Best Dramas on Satellite Television

While we often love watching television to have a good laugh and enjoy some mindless entertainment, we also love the shows that make us cry, think and feel something deeper. While modern television is certainly marked by vapid reality shows and thirty-minute comedies that rely on cheap humor, there is still an abundance of quality television that will give you something more. One-hour dramas have long been popular with television audiences, as they give us the chance to really care about the characters and become involved in their lives. Here is a list of some of the best dramatic programming on satellite television today. If you haven't had the chance to check out these great shows, get caught up and start tuning in.

The Good Wife (CBS)- This new drama starring ER's Julianna Margulies and Sex and the City's Chris Noth, is loosely based on the marital drama of Eliot Spitzer, the disgraced New York governor. After her husband (played by Noth), a prominent Chicago attorney that is exposed in a scandal, is put in prison, Alicia Florrick (played by Margulies) must return to the law profession to support her family. It is a gripping drama about a wife trying to hold on to her dignity in the face of public scandal, while she similarly rediscovers who she is.

Grey's Anatomy (ABC)- A long time hit that is still a favorite among television audiences, this medical drama is emotionally gripping and highly addictive. Detailing the lives of residents at Seattle Grace hospital, fans are constantly rooting for the show's tortured heroine, Meredith Grey. While it has moments of humor, it is a powerful show that deals with the complexity of human relationships against the often tragic backdrop a hospital emergency room.

Mad Men (AMC)- This favorite about Madison Avenue advertising executives in the beginning of the 1960's is a drama that men and women both love. The show's handsome leading man, Don Draper (played by Jon Hamm), is constantly seen drinking and smoking in his office, having torrid affairs and generally being the epitome of an egocentric executive in mid-century America. It is easily the best period show on television, taking you right back to the days when playboys didn't have high definition televisions and expensive toys, just their charm and good looks.

True Blood (HBO)- While movies and television shows about vampires have long been popular with audiences, this gritty drama about vampires and humans coexisting in the deep south is as unique as it is thought-provoking. After vampires decided to come out of hiding and reveal themselves to modern society, there is an essential war of ideologies between vampires and their sympathizers, and those that think they are the manifestation of pure evil. The show makes subtle commentary about marginalized groups in modern America, and will get you thinking while you are entertained.

Big Love (HBO)- Another fantastic drama from HBO, this show is about a polygamist living in Utah with his three wives and children. While it may be a highly controversial subject for television, it is an interesting look into the lives of modern polygamists. Perhaps most interesting is the juxtaposition of Bill Henrickson (played by Bill Paxton) and his family's modern life, against the polygamist compound that his relatives continue to live on. Bill is hardly what you think of when you hear the word polygamist, as he lives in a nice modern house with an HD flat screen television and a swimming pool, but that is what makes the show so effective.

Never miss your favorite shows with DIRECTV. Nothing beats DIRECTV deals for service and affordability.

Complete Registry Cleaner - Your Answer to All the PC Problems

All operations done on windows based operating system, works on a complex system known as computer registry. It is an area in the operating system, were the system variables are stored. Any programs installed on a system add its values to the windows registry and when running that program, the operating systems retrieve its values from it thereby helping in the smooth running of that program.

However the continuous installations and un-installations of the programs corrupt this particular area. There might be broken entries or the entries that have not been after the deletion of a program. Such entries pile up and start using a large portion of the system resources. This will reduce the performance of the system as a whole.

Cleaning the registry is one way to correct this problem. But just cleaning will not completely eliminate the problem. It may be fragmented and can result in invalid shortcuts. To rectify this problem a complete registry cleaner is to be used.

Following are the functions of this cleaner:

1. It cleans the system registry be removing the unwanted registries
2. It fixes the broken registries.
3. After performing the above 2 functions, it will be fragmented. So a complete registry cleaner will defragment the system registry.
4. After deletion of a program, it may not remove all the shortcuts created by it. A complete registry cleaner removes all such invalid shortcuts.

Cleaning of the registry is done comparing all the values in the registries with its linked position to software or programs installed on the system. If it finds that there are no linked programs to the corresponding registry value, it is considered as an obsolete registry and is deleted. Then it searches for the broken registries. When there are entries used by a program, but its values have been change by a 3rd party software or spyware, a complete registry cleaner insert it's corresponding values in the registry there by fixing the broken registries.

Defragmentation of the registry helps in accessing the registry values with a greater speed. It also reduces the space occupied by the windows registry. When installing software or a program, it creates shortcuts in different place for the easy accessibility of that software from different places. But when deleting the software of program, it won't remove all the shortcuts created by it. A complete registry cleaner removes such invalid shortcuts thereby removing the junks from the system.

So when purchasing a windows registry cleaner, it's always better to pay a few pennies more and get a complete registry cleaner and have a hassle free computer.
